The Reward for Surviving Rough Seas

The Reward for Surviving Rough Seas
We are all like sea shells tossed about in rough waters and being re-shaped in wondrous ways. But have you ever contemplated the notion that sea shells have to complete their journey through the rough waters before they get to rest on the shore? Yeah, we are ALL like sea shells and Heaven is The Great Shore.

Gotta Love A Thrift Store!

Greetings Everybody,
Gonna put out a little "WOOHOO" for Thrift Stores today!
Perhaps some of you who are grandparents can relate to this:
Everywhere I go I see stuff that I want to buy for my grandson.

                      Little Shirts
                      Little Socks
                      Little Hoodies
                      Little Bibs
                      Little Rattles
                      Little Toys
                      Little Books

And my husband just keeps looking at me like I'm crazy when I buy all this stuff.

Grand parenting can get EXPENSIVE in a BIG OLE HURRY!

(As I posted last week, we just bought a swing and two high chairs that will stay here at Grandmaw's house. And yes we got 2 matching highchairs...one for the baby who is 4 months old and the matching one for the baby due in June...and yes...that's a prime example of how Grand parenting can get Expensive in a Big Ole Hurry lol)

However, today I hit the jackpot.
Today I waltzed in to a local thrift store and found a changing table, with the curved NON-ROLL OUT pad, and yes it is strapped on securely, and yes the table is stable...and best of all, the table and that big pad were mine for $ 34.

WOOHOOO!

I also got the machine washable cover for the pad for $1.99
I am not really even sure its ever been used.
Looked brand new...and YES I checked it to make sure it really fits the pad...it does.

WOOHOO AGAIN!

It was then that the Granny Itch REALLY kicked in and I made my way over to the baby boy clothing section...where I found 10 pairs of little boy socks for 99 cents. (and that was all she wrote...the rest is history!)

Before it was all said and done, I had picked up:
-4 little hooded towels,
-5 little baby blankets
-4 never been worn white Babies R Us brand Onesies
-a Sunday, Dress Up, Baby Blue Little Boy Cardigan Sweater
-a Thick Winter Pair of Footie PJ's
-a Zip-up jacket with Kangaroo pockets in front
-a Ribbed Disney long sleeved winter shirt...hunter green...and gorgeous
-a fleece zip up hooded vest... again, it looks like it's never been worn
-...and the list goes one and on.

I've priced the things at Babies R Us, Walmart, Target, Various Dollar Stores, and all the shops at the malls.

I know the value of what I got today.

I'll say it again...WOOHOO

I spent just a little bit of money today but got a ton of stuff.
And that feels really good.
PLUS...
No one was hurrying me.
No one was bothering me.
I had all the time in the world.
No crowds.
No hassles.

WOOHOO...Gotta Love A Thrift Store!

Grace

Laurie,
WOW, THANK YOU for visiting me. You are speedy!
Lol...And as far as the number of books that I have going all the time, I fear it is force of habit.
I was a debate coach for years and years and was ALWAYS reading & linking some element of philosophy to some aspect of law or current events to help coach my students for the next tournament.

Though still teaching at the high school level, I stepped out of the debate circuit (trained my replacement and handed it to him on a silver platter cause it was sucking every drop of energy I had from me. God gave me 1 child and 1 husband and I decided that I wanted to keep them both, so the every weekend DEBATE Tourney Circuit had to go lol)
However, the fever to read still REMAINS.

lol... and in order to keep from going broke I got a Kindle and now I download tons of free books.
You might even be interested in some of the old antique items available...oodles of vintage cookbooks. See if this title gets ya " The Candy Maker's Guide A Collection of Choice Recipes for Sugar Boiling"...lol. I have found soooo many fun treasures like this all for free.

Anyway, thank you for visiting me. Looking forward to seeing your blog again soon too.

Oh, that is wonderful! I love going to the thrift stores! I have never walked out without buying something that was a steal!

Betsy,
You are so right.
Thrift stores=affordable treasure troves!

I got that thrift store baby changing table and worked it over with Clorox wipes, got all the dust off of it, and am now even MORE excited about it than when I found it. The little washable cover for the pad fits it perfectly too.

All the little baby boy clothes have now been washed and tenderly placed away.

Over the Christmas holidays, one of my spare bedrooms ( which in all honesty has been serving as a sort of catch-all room), is going to be converted into a Baby Room.

The 2 baby beds we have acquired don't match.
The changing table doesn't match either bed.
As of now, the hand-me-down baby linens don't even match.

Yet I dream on of what the room will look like.

I still have the short 3 drawer chest of drawers that I used with my own daughter lol..and it will be pulled out of storage & put into service to hold my grandchildren's newly acquired tiny little items of clothing.

And NO SURPRISE lol... that chest of drawers doesn't match either of the beds OR the changing table. Looks like I am scoring quite HIGH on the Eclectic Scale thusfar. Truth being told, I will probably link them eventually with matching linens just to draw it all together. Not sure yet. Will have to see about that.

Nevertheless I am really enjoying Granny Dreams of a precious little room in which 2 precious sleeping babies can spend the weekend at Grandmaw & Grandads' house one day very soon.

Woohoo!

In Him,
Grace
